GT Coordinators & Parents

Why District Co-ops?

We know who gifted and talented students are through providing programs for them since 1991. We have witnessed the glow that happens after a child realizes that other kids think learning is cool too. We have been cheerleaders and coaches as avid learners tackle truly challenging coursework. We have prepared children from throughout Wisconsin to understand the underlining commonalities that join us all together, so they can be effective leaders of tomorrow.

One of the ways that we do this is through our online courses. Courses are available throughout the state, geographically located to enhance both student and staff networking throughout the nine-week course and beyond. If you have a student who might be a candidate, please look under the Course link to see where courses are available.

Working with GT Coordinators

The co-op instructor evaluates each student and compiles a portfolio for the local school contact, who is ultimately responsible for assigning grades. School contacts can check in online (1-2 times per week is suggested) at their convenience. A GT coordinator is most often the school contact, but WCATY will work with classroom teachers, librarians, and administrators.

Bottom line:

WCATY helps to create a place where gifted and talent kids can be themselves, so that they can reach their full potential.

To have students participate in the courses, the school district must agree to do the following:

  • Develop a screening process to identify high ability students.

  • Provide internet access at school.

  • Allow release time for students to attend workshops.

  • Allow students to substitute the WCATY course for a unit or a quarter in the relevant subject areas.

  • Transport students to face-to-face meetings.

  • Provide an adult contact for each course to review student submissions, to join them at meetings and to act as a resource.

  • Provide a list of student participants to WCATY no less than two weeks prior to the start of each course.

  • Provide student participants with the necessary books or supplies.
